The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has inducted seventeen Morehead-Cain Scholars into Phi Beta Kappa (PBK), the most prestigious academic honor society in the United States. The organization, founded in 1776, seeks to celebrate “excellence in the liberal arts and sciences” and foster freedom of thought. More than 1,200 Morehead-Cain Scholars have earned membership in PBK since 1957.

Morehead-Cain Class of 2022

• Chiazo Agina, a computer science major with minors in music and Hispanic studies, of Fresno, California.
• Capri D’Souza, a double major in business administration and public policy with a minor in Spanish for the business professions, of Oak Ridge, North Carolina.
• Phoebe Flaherty, a double major in public policy and interdisciplinary studies, of Toronto, Canada.
• Melanie Godinez-Cedillo, a double major in public policy and political science, of Weaverville, North Carolina.
• Caitlin Nygren, a psychology major with minors in medical anthropology and business administration, of Chicago, Illinois.
• Maria Silva, a double major in economics and Italian with a minor in business administration, of Lima, Peru.
• Bri Thompson, a double major in environmental studies and public policy, of Kingston, Jamaica.
• Leticia Tuset, an English and comparative literature major with a minor in entrepreneurship, of Raleigh, North Carolina.
• Graham Watkins, an American studies major with a minor in entrepreneurship, of Raleigh, North Carolina.

• Miranda Almy, a medical anthropology major with minors in creative writing and medicine, literature, and culture, of Greensboro, North Carolina.
• Jordan Feldman, a biomedical and health sciences engineering major, of Mooresville, North Carolina.
• Maggie Helmke, a double major in geological sciences and public policy, of Tampa, Florida.
• Patrice McGloin, a double major in public policy and psychology with a minor in Chinese, of Washington, D.C.
• Tess McGrinder, an English and comparative literature major with a minor in chemistry, of Niskayuna, New York.
• Mable Miao, a double major in biology and economics with a minor in medical anthropology, of Englewood, Colorado.
• Simon Palmore, a double major in history and Hispanic literatures and cultures with a minor in creative writing, of Washington, D.C.
• Ethan Phillips, a health policy and management major with minors in chemistry and public policy, of Fairfax, Virginia.

PBK members include 17 U.S. presidents, 42 Supreme Court Justices, and more than 150 Nobel Laureates. The academic honor society has 290 chapters at undergraduate institutions throughout the country. Carolina admitted 236 students as new members to its PBK chapter, Alpha of North Carolina, this semester.
